The Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) Conference on “Green Shipping. Blue Business. Moving Forward Together” was held from 26 to 27 April 2018 in conjunction with the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2018. Jointly organised by the governments of Germany, Norway, the Philippines and Singapore, the conference will bring together more than 250 participants and stakeholders from across Asia and Europe, representing both public and private sectors, as well as academia and research institutions.
Gracing the event were Mr Ola Elvestuen, Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment, Dr Lam Pin Min, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health, and Mr Felipe Andrada Judan, the Philippines’ Undersecretary for Maritime, Department of Transportation. Speakers included prominent leaders such as Mr Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and Mr Peter Thomson, United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for the Oceans.
Transporting more than 90% of world trade, the shipping industry continues to play its part to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources – one of the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (“Agenda 2030”, Goal #14). The conference aims to contribute towards the implementation of Agenda 2030 by promoting a more environmentally sustainable maritime sector.
