Flying out of Changi Airport will cost more from April 1, when departure taxes go up by $6.The overall tax will be raised from $28 to $34 for all tickets purchased from Nov 1 for travel on or after April 1. From $28 now, travellers will pay $34, The Straits Times found out. There will be no change to the $12 charge for transit passengers.Changi Airport Group (CAG) said on Monday that the revision will help to "fund new investments" and "partially cover the increase in aeronautical operating costs".
Over the next few years, two major projects are in the pipelines. Terminal 4, which will replace the existing Budget Terminal, will be constructed and Terminal 1 will also be expanded with a new multi-purpose complex that is expected to be built.
CAG said that it will make significant improvements to Changi's airside infrastructure including new parking stands and taxiways throughout the airport, as well as resurfaced runways and taxiways.
Several safety enhancements will also be introduced, including the replacement of high tension cables and of fire-protection systems and fire-fighting equipment.Existing lifts, travellators and escalators will also be refurbished, and the Flight Information Display System in Terminal 3 will be replaced, said CAG.
"With Changi Airport expected to serve an additional 10 million passengers per annum within the next five years, timely investment in terminal capacity is crucial in ensuring that Changi upholds its high levels of safety and security as well as continue to provide a world-class airport experience to its passengers," said CAG.
The last time the airport increase its passenger charges was in 2009.
