SINGAPORE – Preparations for Singapore's fifth Formula One night race is in full swing as drivers, car dealers and organisers shift into high gear for this weekend.
One of Formula One's more difficult races, the Singapore leg requires drivers to drive a total of 61 laps on the 5.073km-long Marina Bay track. The local humidity and time difference do not make things any easier.
Speaking to the Straits Times, Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg emphasised that the close to two-hour long race makes it one of the longest races of the year.He said that the length of the race coupled with the heat, humidity and time difference also makes it the toughest race of the year.Making improvements to the racing track this year, organisers have installed steel kerbs instead of rubber ones that came loose at last year's practice sessions.
SMRT has announced that there will be an addition of close to 330 train trips on the North-South, East-West Lines and Circle Line, as well as extended train and feeder bus service timings, in conjucntion with the Formula 1 races this weekend.From 9.15pm onwards from 21 to 23 September, trains on certain stretches will arrive every 3 minutes while those on other lines will arrive at approximately every 4 minutes.
