Synopsis:
One of India’s greatest musicians, Amjad Ali Khan, is the unrivaled master of the North Indian lute called the sarod. Heir to an illustrious musical lineage that modified the instrument itself, Khan gave his first recital at age 6 and was a national celebrity by his teens. Marked by a plaintive, almost voice-like sonority and nearly superhuman speed and clarity, Khan’s artistry has won him legions of fans across the globe. Over his illustrious career he has recorded dozens of genre-defining albums and received an impressive collection of awards, including the UNESCO Award, the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government, Grammy nomination and Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian honour awarded by the government of India.
Khan's two sons, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, will be accompanying him. They are both virtuosos in their own rights extending the legacy and acclaim of the family into its seventh generation of musicians rooted in the SeniaBangash School of music.
Recently, in 2014, the trio performed at the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo, Norway.
The sarod trio is accompanied by the consummate percussionist, SatyajitTalwalkar on Tabla.
