Reports indicate that among the crew members of the cargo ship ‘MSC Aries,’ recently seized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz, 17 are Indian nationals. Diplomatic channels between India, Iran’s Tehran, and Delhi are actively engaged to ensure the safety, well-being, and swift release of these Indian crew members, as stated in media reports citing sources.
The incident occurred shortly after Iran’s warning of potentially closing the vital shipping route, following an Israeli strike on its consulate in Syria. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency detailed the seizure, mentioning that a Guards helicopter intervened, taking the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries into Iranian waters, citing its ties to Israel.
