India Marks 80th Independence Day: Nation Prepares for Historic Celebrations at Red Fort
NEW DELHI: India is all set to celebrate its 80th Independence Day tomorrow, marking eight decades since the nation broke free from colonial rule. As the world’s largest democracy steps into this historic milestone, elaborate preparations are underway across the country, with the capital city wrapped in patriotic fervor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the National Tricolor at the iconic Red Fort tomorrow morning and address the nation.
In a historic first, the rendition of Vande Mataram will resound from the ramparts of the Red Fort during the official ceremony. Adding a visual spectacle to the occasion, around 2,500 students will assemble at the Gyan Path to form a massive human formation spelling out "VANDE MATARAM."
Aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, this year’s celebrations are centered on the theme of youth power (Yuva Shakti) and their pivotal role in transforming India into a fully developed nation by its centenary of independence.
An unprecedented security umbrella has been thrown over the national capital. Thousands of personnel from the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across key locations. The area surrounding the Red Fort is under round-the-clock surveillance using AI-powered CCTV cameras, facial recognition software, and advanced anti-drone systems.
Across the country, citizens are actively participating in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, with the Tricolor flying high atop millions of homes, government institutions, and commercial establishments. State capitals will also host ceremonial parades tomorrow, where Chief Governors and Chief Ministers will hoist the National Flag.
Thousands of special guests—including Olympians, frontline workers, farmers, and youth achievers from various sectors—have arrived in New Delhi to witness the historic event at the Red Fort.
