Kathak, one of the eight major classical Indian dances, has its origins in northern India. In Sanskrit, ‘Katha’ means a story, so ‘Kathak’, literally, means a storyteller. This dance is characterised by graceful hand and body movements, rythmic footwork and pirouettes.
This year’s Kathak Pravaha will explore divine love and devotion (Madhura Bhakti) through various stories of Radha and Krishna, on the tunes of live tabla, flute, harmonium, vocals and more.
