Kerala rain holiday: Schools, colleges closed in multiple districts on August 7
Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of warnings that rainfall is set to intensify, a holiday has been declared on Friday for educational institutions across Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts. Meanwhile, a red alert remains in place on Thursday for Kottayam, Pathanamtitta and Idukki districts.
Following a red alert on Thursday and an orange alert issued for Friday, the District Collector announced that all educational institutions in the district, ranging from Anganwadis to professional colleges, will remain closed on Friday.
Due to severe waterlogging in several areas from heavy downpours, ongoing weather advisories, and the operation of relief camps in various schools, District Collector Shaji V Nair announced a holiday on Friday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, Anganwadis and tuition centres, to ensure student safety. Pre-scheduled public examinations will proceed without change.
In light of the red alert on Thursday and an orange alert declared for Friday, a holiday has been announced on August 7 for all educational institutions in the district, including professional colleges. The closure applies to Anganwadis, tuition centres and special classes as well, while pre-scheduled examinations remain unaffected.

The holiday does not apply to residential educational institutions, however, heads of institutions must strictly ensure the safety of students residing on campus.
In view of heavy rainfall and continuous weather warnings, the District Collector has declared a holiday on Friday for all educational institutions in Kasaragod district, including Anganwadis, professional colleges, tuition centres, and special classes. The order does not apply to residential schools, and all pre-scheduled university and public examinations will be conducted as per schedule.
