The Singapore Malayalee Association’s Thiruvathira Utsav has got into the Singapore Book Of Records as the ‘Largest Mass Thiruvathira Dance’ yesterday evening. An initiative by the Ladies Wing of the SMA, under Ladies Wing President Lakshmy Iyer, it was ably choreographed by Dr.Sunitha Nair and Sheeba Stephen.
In an outdoor setting under the evening sky at Woodlands Stadium, the dancers made a pretty picture on the verdant green grass in their traditional cream and gold attire.
With family and friends extending their support the participants took to the field in slightly cloudy but sunny weather. The dancers moved and clapped in-sync creating a buzz and a positive synergy which added to their grace.
Guest of Honour Mr Amrin Amin, Parliametary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health, graced the occasion with his presence. He gamely posed for pictures and selfies with many of the participants before the event commenced, winning many hearts in the process.
The event got together almost 400 ladies from all walks of life, age groups, ethnicity, languages, religions and from several locations of Singapore together for several months of practise culminating in this successful attempt. Having met all the criteria for entering into that Singapore Book of Records with a final number of 389 participants, the certificate was handed over by their representative in the presence of Mr. Amrin Amin.
