“Who Am I?”, a Theatre production by Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning (Bangalore, India), is based on ‘Who Am I’ the enquiry into the Ultimate Reality as propounded by the great sage Sri Ramana Maharshi.
This play (in English) interspersed with some dances will be an adaptation of their mega dance ballet ‘Paripoorna Ramana’
By the inquiry ‘Who am I?’. The thought ‘who am I?’ will destroy all other thoughts, and like the stick used for stirring the burning pyre, it will itself in the end get destroyed. Then, there will arise Self-realization.
As all living beings desire to be happy always, without misery, as in the case of everyone there is observed supreme love for one’s self, and as happiness alone is the cause for love, in order to gain that happiness which is one’s nature and which is experienced in the state of deep sleep where there is no mind, one should know one’s self. For that, the path of knowledge, the inquiry of the form “Who am I?”, is the principal means. (Sri Ramana Maharshi)
The event is free for public and open to all. It will feature the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879 – 1950), one of the greatest Indian Hindu saints of modern times.
The Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning has showcased innumerable dance, theatre, music productions and TV serials on Sri Ramana. It has been working in the field of preservation and transmission of Indian Heritage for almost four decades. This production is one of their 125 theatre productions on the saint.
The production is led by Kalaimamani Dr Ambika Kameshwar, Ujwal Jagadeesh and artistes of Ramana Maharshi Centre and directed by Dr Sarada, who are specialised in classical performing arts, education and Sri Ramana’s teachings.
Sri Ramana Maharshi:
The sage of Thiruvannamalai was the awe inspiring mystic and philosopher whose presence graced the renowned sacred Arunachala hill during much of the 20th century. He was known throughout India and to many in the rest of the world as the silent sage whose peaceful presence and powerful gaze changed the lives of the many who came into his presence. In silence he radiated peace and contentment like a powerful beacon, effecting a change in anyone who came within his sphere. He encouraged people to look within and decide whether they were actually the body or the changeless eternal self within. His powerful example and inner influence led many people to experience this inner self as the same self behind all awareness, above the transient mind, emotions, and body.
“Who Am I?” or ‘Paripoorna Ramana’ is an all-time favourite production for seekers of truth and equally appealing to children and adults, beginning in a childlike manner and slowly enticing the audience into the depths of their own being.
