Singapore: Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.
In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows' Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treat.
The Island is seen to be celebrating the Halloween in most clubs, hotels, restaurants, and even the local community did their share in organizing an amazing party.This year would definitely be as much as fun as last year or even better.
Halloween Horror Nights is an event created by Universal Studios Singapore. Expect a Hollywood-style scare tactics at this multi-million dollar production that makes you feel like you're trapped in a horror film, as you get chased by zombies, enter a haunted Peranakan house, and dodge a knife-wielding clown. While catching your breath, select Halloween-themed dishes and desserts at KT's Grill.
Fright Fest @ Singapore Flyer is a plan to transform the Flyer's rainforest into a hideaway for goblins, ghosts and oriental spirits. Be prepared to in face-to-face with Asian and Western characters inspired from popular horror movies such as Dark Water, Dead Silence, and Friday the 13th, all of whom have been resurrected, ready to spring a horror surprise on anyone who dares cross their paths.
Sentosa Spooktacular is an event that will be held at Fort Siloso. A creep around every corner makes this one of the best fright nights. With characters such as deranged victims from sketchy schools and labs, you can either join them in Hell's torture chambers, or make it your mission to avoid ending up on a scientist's experiment table.
The Mysteries of Haunted Island is the central square in Clarke Quay where you are likely to see the most costumes in this city, which has a big party planned. Live bands, face painting and games are a few of the ingredients, but keep an eye out for Halloween-themed cocktails and contests for Best Dressed.
