Singapore, 24 July 2016 – Families and friends wake up early today to walk, chat and bond together at the SNM Community Walk – the charity’s newest initiative to promote healthy living and raise awareness for dementia care among the community.
The event will also acknowledge donors who have made generous donations towards SNM’s Building Fund to purchase a building to be called the “SNM Care Centre” which will expand Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore)’s community outreach programmes and allow it to bring its welfare programmes to even more residents.
Gracing the community walk are Guest-of-Honour Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District and Special Guest – Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social and Family Development and MP for Nee Soon GRC.
At the event, Dr Teo will also officially launch SNM Brisk Walking Club. Aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as family and social bonding in the community, this initiative is done in collaboration with North West CDC. The club currently has 35 active participants who walk 1.7km around Yishun together on alternate Saturday mornings.
Dr Teo said, “I congratulate the Sree Narayana Mission for organising the Community Walk and using the occasion to reach out to the public and increase their awareness about dementia. The Brisk Walking Club is an apt initiative to bring people of all races and age groups together and help promote a healthier living.”
He added, “By promoting interaction among families and neighbours, this Brisk Walking club also helps strengthen ties and build our social resilience – something which our community appreciates in such times.”
